How to Plan a Sedona Elopement
You are excited about your wedding day and want to make it unique to your personal connection to each other, yet you want your entire family & best friends to be there with you. Hopefully this guide will help you sort out the nuances and options for your specific vision as well as your budget. There are a variety of options that will help you in your research, as well as galleries and links to explore further. I capture between 65 to 85 elopements annually, with choices from “easy peasy” to “adventurous” to a hybrid of traditional in combo with an elopement. It’s all about your vision!
The Farm at South Mountain, Phoenix
The Farm in greater Phoenix is a portal to a world of rural farm life blended with elegant gardens and farm fresh vegetables to your plate. Lush greenery all year around, cottage culture mixed with vintage adornment. The perfect wedding venue when 4-white walls just isn’t your vibe. The intimate ceremony location just off the reception area feels of cottage Italian landscape. The bridal suite is quaint and offers an amazing blue-green hue for photography. The florals are everywhere as are the oversized cabbage and kale, a unique backdrop for your wedding album.
Wedding at Creekside Cabins
Creekside Cabins, a wedding venue in northern Arizona for couples who love the mountains and rural outdoors. Western refinement in the wilderness east of Payson, with views, extraordinary culinary experience under the stars and all of the conveniences for a wedding day! Cabins for your entire guest list who might love to explore, hike, fish and off-road on the ridges high above Payson, AZ. Photography by Bon Miller.
Oak Creek Canyon Elopement
Step into a world unseen by many in Arizona. AZ summers can be hot, however the Junipine Resort will make you feel like you are in Colorado with the cool creekside in Oak Creek Canyon, a short drive north from Sedona. A well kept secret, this wedding venue offers a quiet retreat from the sun’s glare. All on the same property, your creek view lodging, a dining restaurant and an outdoor wedding venue overlooking the creek with a gazebo and an abundance of greenery. The perfect intimate location for a small family gathering, whether for a wedding or a family reunion … it’s so peaceful and private and yet all your amenities within steps.
Merry Go Round, Sedona’s premier view
Merry Go Round is a famous location high above Sedona’s red rocks, on the edge of the Coconino Forest Plateau at 5450’ with unmatched views of the Arizona sunset. A magical experience, with breathtaking exposures, similar to the Grand Canyon. Yes, you can bring a small guest list if you decide to rent a posse of jeeps to caravan your group up Schnebly Hill. Or you can have your ceremony at an easier location in Sedona proper and runaway for a magical photo session afterwards. Privacy, adventure and dramatic views!
Mountain Wedding in AZ
Mountain wedding in the White Mountains of Arizona, home to the largest contiguous ponderosa pine forests in the world. Gather your most favorite people, bring your campers, rv’s and atv’s for an adventure in the remote forests on the Coconino plateau. Keeping cool in the summer!
grand canyon wedding photography
One of the mostly iconic backdrops in the world is available for your intimate elopement. Shoshone Pt is the only location with the ultimate privacy on the south rim. It is located behind a locked gate, no signage to invite tourists, and 1 mile from pavement. It is the only location with a covered ramada with 10 picnic tables, restrooms, and access for a food truck or catering wagon. The permit process is easy to apply, with minimal fee’s. The space can accommodate a large guest list, however the privacy of the location can best be experienced as an intimate gathering. Lodging is available in the village as well as Airbnb’s in Flagstaff and Williams, Az.
Getting Married at the Tlaquepaque Chapel
Old world charm, Tlaquepaque Plaza sets a visceral stage for your intimate wedding day, conveniently located in the heart of Sedona, close enough to skip out for some epic red rock photos at sunset. Hand painted murals in the quaint wedding chapel, fired clay brick walk ways, arched walkways with ivy, elegant architecture with large fountains, a stunning backdrop for a charming boutique wedding.
Sedona | Romance Session
Have some fun and a little adventure with an engagement photo session, or anniversary gift, or a romance weekend highlight… shake out your hair, look out onto the vastness and feel the wind lift your spirits!
Eloping in Sedona during the winter
Feb. 18, 2024 was a warm day … however not always is it nearly 70 degrees in February. Often we will get a fleeting snow storm or rain shower. Planning ahead and bringing a warm Etsy wool cape is still a great idea, especially when a breeze picks up and creates a little drama! This location was Secret Slick Rock, not so secret anymore. Weekends can be a challenge all year around. This particular Sunday there were 2 weddings and approximately 50 visitors exploring the sunset drenched views overlooking Cathedral Rock. If you can possibly book a weekday, this is your best bet, otherwise we highly encourage a shuttle for most trail head parking when bringing guests. Learning to share the epic trails and views has been a part of the local Sedona transformation. Inquire about our “out in the boondock” locations if you are avid hikers. We often have your ceremony at a easy location, such as your Airbnb … and then head to the views for a 2nd location “romance session”.
Best Time to Elope
Why would anyone choose winter in Sedona? Easy to understand once you’ve experienced a February sunset. Dramatic skies, privacy on the red rocks and “off-season” prices are luring more brides to choose the winter months for an outdoor wedding. Yes, Sedona can be cold, windy and snowing, however hovering around 32 degrees on the coldest day is not a deal breaker for those who live in the midwest or east coast. We can’t guarantee the weather, yet it’s our most inclement time of year making for the most dramatic images.
Agave of Sedona
Autumn weddings are typically blue skies, however when it brings showers, it also brings rainbows and unicorns. The Agave of Sedona is one of Sedona’s most popular wedding venues with a patio of endless views for your ceremony. Located near the airport vortex for incredible red rock portraits, as well as a 5 min. drive to the base of Coffee Pot Rock. The Sky Rock Lodge is conveniently a walk away, next door for those large guest lists. The Agave of Sedona has a bridal suite for prep, a cocktail bar, the men’s cave, and a covered patio outdoors for inclement weather days. It’s the perfect wedding venue when you need that large reception room for dancing, DJ’s, bands and good times.
Sky Ranch Lodge at Airport Hill.
On top of the highest peak of Sedona on the edge of the best views in town is one of the most popular wedding venues, Sky Ranch Lodge. A short walk to the airport vortex, the airport restaurant, with convenient on-site lodging and a ceremony site overlooking the core of Sedona proper. A park-like grass area adjacent to an open air reception hall is the centralized event area. You will love the wood accents, the landscaping and the floral pots. The property has ponds, viewing benches and a peaceful ambience. A lovely choice for a wedding with a large guest list.
Sedona | Los Abrigados
Sedona is a destination wedding location for both all-day weddings at venues as well as micro elopements on the red rocks. There are no shortages of venues and airbnb’s to host your wedding day. Los Abrigados resort has an outdoor grass park setting on the edge of Oak Creek for your ceremony. Located next to the famous Tlaquepaque arts & crafts plaza filled with art shops, clothing boutiques and fine dinning. Los Abrigados is centrally located within walking distance of the shopping district called “uptown” and offers lodging for all of your guests. A great location for arriving by shuttle and remaining on foot for your stay. Located adjacent to El Portal, a boutique high end lodge adorned with collectors art and crafts in the lobby, not to be missed.
Sedona Merriott Rooftop
This Phoenix bride wanted a mid morning wedding, a handful of guests that would remain at the Courtyard of Sedona, Marriot. She also wanted some red rock photos prior to her rooftop ceremony. The results are a “high-key” bright sunlight gallery. The time window that would include travel to the red rocks, family photos and the ceremony was a total of 3 hours. I highly encourage wearing a veil when booking an early wedding, as it gives us an opportunity to play in the shade of the veil.
