West Fork Trail, Engagement and Romance

Engagement session in Sedona, Bon Miller Photo

The element of surprise, her eyes closed and the anticipation of his touch. He is in awe of her feminine, and she loves his appreciation. There is a wildness in her wavering essence, one moment she is soft and luring, the next she is untamed and a force to be won over.  I am obsessed with capturing this mix of tides, the polarity of the masculine and the feminine. It is an unexplainable magnetism.  Un-posing the "pose" is where the magic flourishes.

Heading towards Flagstaff from West fork is the lookout vista at the top of the switchbacks. This gives us an second sunset opportunity.

West Fork Trail is one of my favorite locations for an engagement session.  Sunset is the best time of day for photos, which can be up to 90 minutes earlier than in Sedona proper.

Cathedral Vortex, feminine romance

Sedona is known for it's energy vortexes

According to the vortex experts, they are natural geomagnetic points that radiate energy, said to strengthen the inner being when near them.  Cathedral Rock and the Red Rock Crossing is one of the main four Sedona vortexes, a feminine energy I like to think of as "romance" energy.  For more information click here.

Cathedral Rock is a commanding scramble up to the view point.  Expect to take 35 to 45 min. from the Back O' Beyond Trail head, if you are in shape. (Demanding climb on all fours, at times.)

Once at the top, there are small ledges to enjoy the view both to the east and west for sunset or sunrise, the best time of day for photographs.  I recommend my couples hike in casual clothes, with good griping hiking shoes, packing their portrait attire in a backpack.  The fall and the spring are the busiest for tourism. It's an amazing location if you want to take the time for epic scenery.

Boudoir and the Feminine Energy

A feminine woman leans toward trustfulness, adaptability, and vulnerability, a strength far beyond the powerful physical muscles of the masculine.  Within her ocean of intuitive waves, she can awaken and open the masculine, locked into his directional purpose.

"Warriorship is so tender, without skin, without tissue, naked and raw. It is soft and gentle. You have renounced putting on a new suit of armor. You have renounced growing a thick, hard skin. You are willing to expose naked flesh, bone and marrow to the world."  --  Chogyam Trungpa

"It's no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then."-- Lewis Carroll

"Never touch anything with half your heart."

"When we let go of self, we are more inspired to work with others, and when we are generous to others we realize the self is lost."   -- Chogyam Trungpa

"Fly in the direction of feeling inspired and passionate."

"You will know you are sailing in the right direction, for you will feel the burden lifted by the wind."

"When you are your own best friend, others' will gravitate to your leadership of self."

Boys don’t cry. Girls are supposed to be nice. So, what happens when a boy feels sad or a girl feels angry? They feel confused and ashamed on top of the original emotion, which only adds to the suffering and desire to just escape the whole mess.

Without the ability to accept ourselves in all our complexity, and without the inner tools to process strong emotions, people often turn to things like drugs, alcohol, compulsive sex, gambling or shopping to dull and temporarily escape the pain.

When we have an aversion to our own emotional state, it’s as if we’re at war with our own self. As Thich Nhat Hanh says, it’s like the right hand attacking the left. There is no upside to it.

A wiser course of action is to feel what we’re feeling without reacting to it. This is mindfulness. The sense of freedom that comes from this internal shift is empowering and creates space for more happiness.

My friend hadn’t considered this as an option during a stressful relationship breakup.  When I suggested it, the relief was immediate and palpable; such a profound gift that she can give herself. It made me even more passionate about sharing this simple practice with as many people as possible.

With regular practice, we can slowly but surely transform our relationship with challenges, and develop the tools and confidence to meet life head-on.

If this sounds intriguing to you, please consider joining me for a Mindfulness Teacher Training. We have frequent workshops.  You’ll have 10-weeks to strengthen your own practice and, if you’d like, learn how to share with others. You can learn more here or email me if you have any questions.
